Built-in Shelves

Custom-Designed and Built in close conjunction with the owner’s wishes. The shelves were built along an existing 13 1/2 foot long hallway. Previously there had been a desk and some smaller shelving units here, but the need for permanent storage made these built-ins a necessity.
The shelves went floor-to-ceiling, and along the entire length of the existing wall. Some additional drywall was installed in order to ‘continue’ the hallway and make the shelves appear to ‘sink’ into the new wall. One electrical outlet was relocated so as to serve as a counter-height charging station. The shelves and uprights were made with 3/4” sanded plywood, with 1/2” hardwood frontage strips for added durability and a cleaner look. The shelves were spaced and supported by a concealed 2x4 framing system, and the whole system was constructed using over 300 wood screws. I counted :-)
After construction the entire unit was sanded, caulked, primed, sanded again, painted with semi-gloss hybrid oil/water-based paint, given a final finishing 400-grit sand, and then a final paint coat was applied for ultimate smoothness and durability.
